UPVC Replacement Door Handles
The handles on your doors wear out over time and need to be replaced. When doing this it is crucial that the new handles match the critical dimensions of the previous handle.
The three measurements to be inspected are the top screw position the lever and key hole dimensions. Refer to the size guide for help with this.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever handle or lever is a modern-day door handle designed to suit new or replacement doors. This style of handle is available in various designs and finishes. This handle is offered by a number of manufacturers including Avocet ERA Fullex Hoppe Mila Millenco Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The uPVC/Composite handles are made from robust materials, and are perfect for doors with multiple points that require a robust design. The handles are inline and they utilize the same spindle and screws to secure them. They can be easily installed on a new or existing uPVC/Composite door.
The sprung lever design allows the handle to be placed and angled for comfortable operation and is suitable for all users. The handle has been tested to 200,000 cycles, this helps to ensure the quality of the finish as well as the performance of the handle over time. The lever that springs is adjustable to fit a broad range of locks. This is useful in doors that are narrower, where the cylinder is further back in the door. A shortened lever is also an excellent option for doors where the latch can be operated by a thumb turn on the inside.
Lever Pad
The lever pad upvc handle is distinct from the lever handles that are found on most doors. The handle can use a single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two offset or inline spindles (pad). They are typically used on UPVC double glazed doors and are available in a variety of variations and styles.
window handles are available in various finishes, including White, Chrome and Gold. The finish is compliant with BS EN 1670:2007 Grade 5 and is also resistant to corrosion, giving the handle a high degree of durability and performance for the intended use.
All of the UPVC handle lever pad styles are supplied with screws and a spindle, allowing them to be fitted on a new or existing uPVC door. The backplate fixation centers of 211mm allow for a wider handle, which is often an advantage when replacing an old or damaged multi-point door lock mechanism. These handle levers have springs, which can solve the problem of door handles that sag out of their horizontal position when not in use.
It is crucial to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock as well as the uPVC doors when selecting a replacement UPVC spindle and handle. This measurement may also be referred to as 'handle centres' or cylinder centres'. It is important for matching the correct handles.
Once you have decided on the correct size of PZ, you will need to make sure that the push and lever pads are shaped to fit the American with Disabilities Act compliant handles you require for your door. They typically have of a round or square design with an internal lever and external push pad.
Most of the UPVC lever pads we offer are sprung, which means that they will return to their horizontal position when they are not in use, rather than hanging out and potentially sticking in the frame. This prevents drafts and cold air from getting into a house. The majority of UPVC lever pad style handles are available in left and right handed versions which allows them to be placed on either side of doors.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are commonly used on uPVC doors, but can also be found on other types of door. They work by using a key to unlock a cylinder case which will reveal pins that can be aligned to those in the lock body and allowing them to turn a revolving cam, thus opening the door. Euro cylinders can be equipped with up to six pins with external and internal doors typically requiring different levels of security.
The selection of a cylinder is vital. It is based on the use that your doors and handles receive. For example, external doors require a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured with a standard cylinder. In addition, some cylinders come with additional features which can enhance security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
To make sure that the euro cylinder is the correct size for your door, it should be measured correctly. The cylinder needs to be measured from the screw hole at the center to the ends of the cylinder. This includes the thumb turn if there is one. It is recommended to do this with the lock in place however when this isn't possible, you may remove it to take measurements. It is important to not have a extension of the cylinder beyond the handle or escutcheon. This can make it vulnerable to lock snapping attacks.
The majority of modern cylinders have been made with bump and anti-drill features included in their design. They are designed to minimize attack chances by forcing the cylinders to turn in a different direction. This can help deflect the attack, and protect your door.
Certain cylinders are constructed to resist snapping. This is a common attack on cylinders. A specially designed tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a lot faster and more straightforward than gaining access through multipoint locks. It also leaves no evidence of a burglary, which could hinder an insurance claim.
Spring Cassette

The spring cassette is positioned in the base of your door handle backplate, supplying a spring-loaded solution that returns the multipoint lock handles back to their normal position after using. The handles had no spring and would drop when the locking mechanism was removed. This simple component is the best solution to solve this issue. It also prevents your door from becoming stuck in either the closed or open position since they are difficult to close manually.
The spring cassettes were made to be used with sprung multipoint locks. They will not fit unsprung handles and you'll have to cut a hole into your backplate for them to fit. (Please look at the image for a technical diagram). These cassettes are a solution to broken or missing cassettes that are in the backplate of uPVC door handles. They are available as a single unit. They come with a square cut out that is able to accommodate an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes provide an excellent value solution for the issue of sagging door handles. These spring cassettes are easy to install and will extend the lifespan of your uPVC door.
